Well, there it is. The view from the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
It's hard to believe that in a few minutes I will be hiking down the
Bright Angel Trail. Most of the trail is hidden by that outcrop of
white rock to the left or zigzagging directly below me. But just to
the right of center (and far below me) I can see the day hike limit,
Plateau Point, and the trail running out to it. The point is nearly
due north. I'm glad that I'm not going anywhere near that far today.
I'm in decent shape, but that looks like a long way and I've never done
hiking like this. And the warning sign isn't reassuring.
It's August, it's 8:30 am, and it's getting warm. I'm running late
already. I'd better hurry to the trailhead.
