Hi there,

This is the Mad Martian. Fafnir's dead. Long live Fafnir! Siegmund or Siegfried or Sieg-somebody killed him and took all the best stuff, like the cursed Ring of the Niebelung.

The rest of it I snagged and now I'm trying to turn it into a web site.

All right, enough of the fiction. My real name is Anthony Vealé and I'm an unemployed Unix sysadmin. This makes me a professional computer geek. I have a professional web page from my former job, but I've been bleeding the life out of that and moving the interesting stuff to my personal web page here on Fafnir.

I'm running Linux on Fafnir and supporting this private web site all on my own time. I guess that makes me a private computer geek, too.

Actually, it is only chance that made me a professional computer geek. I trained as an astronomer, with a B.S. in Astronomy from UCLA and an M.S. in Physics from CU Boulder. I used to work for an astronomy department, CASA.

I spend a lot of my free time on Fafnir, programming in perl, hacking other people's C++ code to try to learn it myself, and playing online games. Hey, I told you I was a geek, right? Besides, if you think that graduate studies in physics are a great way to win friends and influence people, well you've got another think coming.

I do have some interests outside of computing, but you will be able to figure those out from the sort of things that I dump into the Interesting Links. Goodness, I hope that no one thought those links would necessarily be interesting to anyone but me.
